Income Tax Calculator (New Regime)
How this calculator works
Taxable income = gross income − standard deduction (salaried). Tax is applied slab by slab, the 87A rebate is applied where eligible, then 4% cess is added.
- The new regime is the default; you can still opt for the old regime if its deductions suit you better.
- Slab rates used: nil up to ₹4 lakh, 5% to ₹8 lakh, 10% to ₹12 lakh, 15% to ₹16 lakh, 20% to ₹20 lakh, 25% to ₹24 lakh and 30% above that.
- Salaried taxpayers get a ₹75,000 standard deduction in the new regime.
- This is an estimate for planning. Surcharge on very high incomes and special-rate income such as capital gains are not included.
Frequently asked questions
Which regime does this calculator use?
It uses the new tax regime, which is the default regime for individual taxpayers. If you claim large deductions such as home loan interest, 80C and HRA, compare the result with the old regime before filing.
What is the section 87A rebate?
It is a rebate that removes the tax liability for resident individuals whose taxable income stays within the prescribed limit under the new regime, so tax becomes zero up to that point.
Is this figure final?
No. It is a planning estimate. Surcharge for high incomes, capital gains taxed at special rates, relief under section 89 and TDS already deducted are not covered. Verify on the official income tax portal or with a chartered accountant.
Disclaimer: results are estimates for planning only. Interest rates, tax slabs and government charges change — confirm the final figure with your bank, employer or the official government portal before you act on it.
