How to Check Aadhaar–PAN Link Status Online (2026)

Summary

A two-minute check on the Income Tax e-filing portal tells you whether your PAN is linked to Aadhaar, and what to do if it is not.

An unlinked PAN becomes inoperative, which blocks refunds, high-value banking and many KYC steps. Checking the status takes about two minutes and needs no login.

Check the status without logging in

  1. Open the Income Tax e-filing portal at incometax.gov.in.
  2. In the left panel under Quick Links, choose Link Aadhaar Status.
  3. Enter your PAN and Aadhaar number, then select View Link Aadhaar Status.
  4. The result appears on screen: linked, not linked, or pending with UIDAI.

If the status says not linked

Use the Link Aadhaar option on the same portal. If a fee applies for your case, the portal routes you to e-Pay Tax first; the linking request can be submitted after the payment is reflected, which usually takes a few working days.

If the details do not match

Name, date of birth or gender mismatches are the most common failure. Correct them on the Aadhaar side at an enrolment centre or on the UIDAI self-service portal, or on the PAN side through the PAN correction form, and try again once the update is confirmed.

Frequently asked questions

Is checking the Aadhaar PAN link status free?

Yes. Checking the status on the Income Tax portal is free and needs no login. Only the linking request itself may carry a fee in some cases.

What happens if PAN stays inoperative?

An inoperative PAN can hold up income tax refunds, cause higher TDS deduction and fail KYC checks at banks and mutual funds until it is linked again.
